Through our many sports programs, Maranatha strives to impart integrity, character development, and a solid work ethic, as well as good physical health. Crusader athletic teams have captured numerous league, district, and regional championships without compromising a high priority on academic excellence and Biblical values.  Strict eligibility standards have made our student-athletes rank consistently among the best in the state for all-academic teams and highest team GPA honors.

MCC competes in the Mile High League 2A classification, and has been a member in good standing with the Colorado High School Activities Association (CHSAA) since 1991.  Junior high (grades 7-8) and senior high (grades 9-12) sports options include basketball, volleyball, 8-man football, soccer, baseball, and track & field. Athletes in 7th -12th grade who participate in a sport that Maranatha does not offer are able to receive academic credit towards their PE requirements.

A short season of soccer is available to students in grades 4-6, and various sports camps are open to grades 1-12 during the summer.  MCC provides an outstanding P.E. program for pre-school through sixth grade. We teach students, through a variety of activities, that physical fitness is fun for everyone. Field days provide an exciting year-end event for all age groups.

All MCC athletic coaches meet various standards for training, certification, and character.  Without a doubt, we have a very dedicated staff of Christian coaches that make ministry their highest priority.  In fact, when coaches are hired, greater emphasis is placed upon their character and testimony than their athletic credentials.  This emphasis is in line with our general philosophy that sports can be competitive and fun without compromising our integrity, academic excellence, or our Biblical values.  All MCC head coaches are either state-certified teachers or registered by the Colorado High School Activities Association standards for certification. In addition, every coach is CPR certified annually and first aid trained every three years.  Rest assured our coaching staff keeps the best interest of the student-athlete a high priority, while at the same time maintaining excellence within their sport and striving to honor and glorify the name of Jesus Christ.

Varsity Baseball

Workouts begin in mid-February and the season runs through early May. When there is a large turnout of players, several JV games are scheduled so more players can participate.  Maranatha's 2007 baseball season was historic, with the squad hanging a banner for the first time by winning the District 7/Mile High League championship. The team went on to beat favored Calhan in the regional semi-finals. The results give Maranatha the claim of being one of the top eight teams in all of Colorado Class 2A baseball. The rallying cry of our team is "For The LORD!" We are currently building an on-site batting cage and bullpen which is scheduled to be complete during the spring of 2008. Maranatha's long-range goals include plans for building a home field when the necessary adjoining property can be acquired . . . until then home games are played at Pioneer Fields near 82nd & Simms.

Girl’s Basketball

The Lady Crusaders have two championship banners to show since 1998 and have posted six consecutive winning seasons since their last championship run in 2002. Last year three players were awarded all-conference recognition voted on by the Mile High league coaches at the end of the regular season. The junior high girls have also captured numerous league and tournament titles over the years. Junior high offers two squads for 7th & 8th graders while Varsity and JV are open to 9th – 12th girls. Several summer camps and tournaments are also available to those working on improving their skills in the off-season.

Boy's Basketball

Basketball

Longtime assistant coach Larry Zaroban will take over the helm as Head Coach for the upcoming 2007-08 Season. Coach Zaroban helped the Crusaders during the 2006-2007 season when three all-conference players led the way to a 16-3 record and advanced the Varsity into the regional sweet sixteen tournament at Northwest Junior College in Sterling, Colorado. After finishing runner-up in the district tourney, MCC boys finished out 18-5 overall and 9-1 in the Mile High League standings.

Four levels of play are open each year beginning with the junior high “B” team and the more competitive “A” team competing in the Mile High League junior high division which boast a pre-season and post-season tournament. The high school Junior Varsity plays a full schedule preparing players for the Varsity squad which has two district championship banners and four runner-up plaques over the past dozen years.

Varsity 8-Man Football

Football

From August through October the Crusaders offer an exciting brand of high scoring and wide open 8-Man Football.  Last season the Crusader’s advanced into the play-offs for the first time in 15 years. Labor Day weekend 2007 kicks-off the season under the lights at Boulder’s Recht Field when MCC takes on Justice High.  Another season highlight is the homecoming game under lights at Maranatha’s Crusader Bowl against the Saints from Vail Christian on Friday, October 5th.  Head Coach Dan Ducey expects nine seniors to lead the way to a second strait play-off berth.

Strength and conditioning is also a priority as the team hits the weight room three times a week in the pre-season and twice a week in season.  When the turn out is adequate, a number of Junior Varsity games are scheduled to ensure even the least experienced players see some action.

Golf

MCC began its first ever Golf season with home matches at the West Woods Country Club.  For 2007 the Mile Hi League will sanction Golf as an official Conference sport with a championship and all-league individual honors for the top players.  The Golf season tees-off in early August playing most matches before school begins.  The entire season is completed by September 14th with an unofficial small school State Championship match hosted by Kiowa HS at the Spring Valley CC in Parker.

Varsity Girls Outdoor Soccer

Since 1994, the team has earned numerous post-season tournament bids and qualified for three consecutive regional tournaments between 2004 and 2006.  In 2004, the team captured the regional championship with an undefeated league mark of 8-0.  New uniforms boosted morale in 2006 and 2007 saw three players on the 1st team all-conference roster as the Lady Crusdaers posted another winning record of 10-4-1. Practice begins in mid-February and concludes near the first week of May.

Varsity Boys Indoor Soccer

The Crusaders have competed for four seasons in the North JeffCo indoor high school league and captured the divisional crown last season with a 7-0-1 record.  Indoor soccer offers all the excitement of team play with an up-close and personal view for the spectators. Fans and players alike love the intense action and high scoring games. The season runs from mid-October through Christmas. The Crusaders practice and condition three days a week outdoors on campus and also add a 6am indoor practice every Tuesday morning before school. All games fall on Saturday and include a couple double headers to fill out the schedule. No games are schedule over the Thanksgiving holiday.

Junior High Outdoor Soccer

The junior high soccer team is open to boys (and girls) in 6th through 8th grade. Practice begins the first week of school and an average 8 game schedule runs through mid-October. Practice and games are after school on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Wednesday’s are off days for junior high so the coach can devote time and effort to the elementary team. Primarily a boy’s team in the fall, girls are welcome to join since no junior high girl’s team has been offered the last two spring seasons.

Elementary Co-ed Outdoor Soccer

Fourth through sixth graders try-out for a spot on the roster during their recess the first week of school. Once the team is formed they practice and play on Wednesday’s after school for several weeks. Last year, 25 players made the team. For the 2007 season, the highlight is an all-day tournament scheduled for Thursday, October 11. The young Crusaders have not failed to return home with at least a 3rd place trophy most years.

Varsity Track & Field

Varsity track enjoyed wonderful success in its inaugural season of 2006! Most track invitational and relays fall on Saturday while a couple mid-week meets round out the schedule. This allows many of our spring athletes to compete in track and still participate in baseball or girls soccer.

The Flatirons made for a gorgeous backdrop on a sunny Saturday, May 5, 2007 as the boys finished 2nd in the Mile High League Championships held at Fairview High School in Boulder. Former decathlete Jim Banich coaches the boys while the girls are lead by coach Cathy Elliott a former Heptathalete at University of Portland.

Junior High Track & Field

MCC is excited to offer a junior high track program. Previously, track & field was limited to field days and PE class. Junior high track is supervised by our own coaches and participates through the North JeffCo middle school sports program. This level of our Track & Field program is open to girls and boys grades 6 – 8. Practice is after school and meets run on Tuesday and Thursday at various middle schools in Jefferson County. The season climaxes on the fourth Tuesday in May with the middle school relays hosted at Jefferson County stadium located at 6th and Kipling.

Girl's VolleyballVolleyball

MCC has posted several consecutive winning seasons on the volleyball court and won the district championship in 2004. Four levels of competition are offered with two teams at the junior high level while the high school offers both Junior Varsity and Varsity squads.

Summer open gym allows 7th – 12th grade girls a chance to improve their skills for the upcoming fall season every Tuesday and Thursday evening in July and August.

For the 2007-2008 school year, official practice begins August 13th  for high school players and junior high the following week. In addition to the Mile High League opponents, several tournaments fill out the 19-game schedule. Junior high season concludes with a final four tournament on October 13th while the varsity district tournament commences October 22nd.
