Foreign/International Exchange Students at Maranatha

WELCOME!

At Maranatha Christian School we welcome the multi-cultural experience of having exchange students from around the world, who not only want a solid academic experience, but also want it in a Christian environment.

We are privileged to have exchange students at our school every year, and welcome them into every activity of the school with open arms. Our students are eager to learn about new cultures and gladly share their American ways in return. By accepting your students we make a commitment to them and their families to do all that we can to make their experience, at MCS and in America, one that will be rewarding and helpful to them in every way for the rest of their lives. Just as they leave a lasting imprint on us, we want to send a part of us home with them when their time here is over. If your American experience includes attending our school, we are thankful for the privilege.

While academics are very important at MCS, our desire is to help each student rise to their highest level of potential in every area of their lives, and our greatest goal is to help each student mature into a well-rounded young adult with the ability to leave our school and take their place successfully as a positive influence in the world beyond MCS. Our students are ministered to in every area of life. We actively teach integrity, honesty, strong moral values, willing obedience to parent and civil authority, and patriotism. MCS deliberately teaches each student to approach every situation from a Godly worldview and to make decisions based on Biblical principles for their present and future well being.

Any student desiring to come and be a part of our student body MUST be able to function in the classroom using the English language – so proficiency is imperative. While the school does not provide living accommodations, we have, most of the time, been able to help find families that would be willing to house an exchange student for the school year. In this case, meeting living expenses for the exchange student would be necessary. These types of arrangements, of course, need to be solidified before the SEVIS I-20 process is begun.

We look forward to meeting your international student and enjoying the interactive process of having them study alongside our American students!

Foreign/International Exchange Students -

STEPS FOR ENROLLMENT

Steps to follow if you wish to enroll a foreign student in Maranatha Christian School:

1.       Decide that you wish for your student to enroll at Maranatha Christian School.

2.       Download, complete, and submit the following necessary forms:

2.1.   Acceptance Guidelines (click for download)

2.1.1.      This outlines the guidelines, and estimated costs expected for enrollment acceptance to be fulfilled.

2.1.2.      Please fill out this form and initial each paragraph indicating that you understand and agree. Sign the bottom of the form.

2.2.   SEVIS I-20 Questionnaire (click for download)

2.2.1.      This Questionnaire is used by the school to collect the necessary information to submit to SEVIS so that an I-20 Form can be issued for the student by SEVIS.

2.2.2.     Student, student’s parents, or foreign exchange agency should fill out the form with all required information and return it to the school.

2.3.   Pre-Registration Form (click for download)

2.3.1.      This form gives us the necessary information the school needs for enrollment purposes.

2.4.   Pre-Approved Credit Form (click for download)

2.4.1.      This form authorizes the school to charge your credit card the $1000.00 non-refundable* Registration Fee.

2.4.2.     Alternative means of payment will include: check, wire transfer.

2.4.3.     *The refund of any of the registration fee is available ONLY if the American embassy in the student’s native country refuses to grant the student a visa. If that situation occurs, MCC MUST have written declination of the student’s refusal by the embassy to receive a refund of the registration fee less the processing fee of $500/student.

2.5.   Tuition and Fee Contract (click for download)

2.5.1.      This form is an agreement for Tuition Fees and other financial information.

3.       Provide additional information:

3.1.   You should provide a letter of introduction that tells the Host Family about the student, and the student’s parent. You can include pictures, and any information that will help your potential Host Family.

3.2.   Provide current school information and recommendation from teachers in the student’s home country i.e. report card, transcripts, recommendation letters, etc. This will help us know that the student is being placed in the correct grade, and ready to learn at the level for which the student is being enrolled.

4.       Make arrangements for where your student will live while enrolled at Maranatha.

4.1.   Maranatha will make every effort to assist in the process of finding a Host Family for your student, but can make no guarantees. We will make the opportunity known to our school community with the hope of finding a family who will be interested in hosting your child for the school year.

4.2.   Customarily, the foreign student’s family will pay an “accommodation” fee to the Host Family on a monthly basis . . . normally approximately $1000/month/student during the time staying with the Host Family (10 months.)

4.3.   Customarily, if a foreign student will be continuing a second or third year at Maranatha, the student will return to their home country for the summer at the end of the school year (approximately the first week in June) then return just prior to the beginning of the next school year in September. If this is not the case, and your student will be staying through the summer or any part of the summer, you must make arrangements for housing for your student during the summer months. This may or may not work with the Host Family that housed your student through the school year. Please make arrangements early!

5.       After obtaining the I-20, you must contact the embassy in your country and apply for a VISA for the student.

6.      THIS IS A NON-OPTIONAL REQUIREMENT: Make arrangements to obtain Insurance that will cover any medical, health, or accident expenses for your student while they are traveling to and from America, and while living and studying in America. The student must have an approved insurance card when they arrive in America that authorizes the School and/or Host Family to provide any necessary and/or emergency medical and health attention that may be needed. This card must have a valid date that covers the time the student is in this country and including travel to and from. Maranatha Christian School does charge a $20/student annual fee for Student Accident Insurance - but this is in ADDITION to the above Parent/Student Policy that the Foreign Exchange Student must have in effect from his/her home country.
